Sports Calculators
Golf handicap, batting average, bowling score, and sports stats
Sports calculators on CalcMountain handle the statistical and pacing math that comes up in baseball, bowling, swimming, cycling, and golf. The conventions here follow the official rulebooks of each sport's governing body where applicable.
The batting average calculator implements the standard baseball formula (hits / at-bats), excluding walks, hit-by-pitch, sacrifices, and catcher's interference per Major League Baseball Rule 9.02. For context, .300 is excellent, .250 is roughly average, and anything below .200 is the "Mendoza line" of professional viability.
The bowling score calculator implements full ten-pin scoring with strike and spare bonuses. A perfect game is 300 (twelve strikes — ten in the regulation frames plus two bonus rolls in the tenth frame). Bowling scoring is famously confusing because strikes and spares in late frames carry forward bonuses from subsequent rolls, which means you can't always know your score immediately.
The swimming pace calculator handles 100-meter and 100-yard pace conversion for the four competitive strokes, plus distance/time/pace conversions for any swim event. Long-course (50m pool) and short-course (25m or 25y pool) times differ measurably because of the additional turns and underwater dolphin kicks in short course.
The cycling power calculator uses the Coggan FTP-based zone framework that virtually all power-meter training relies on. The calculator handles FTP (functional threshold power) estimation from a 20-minute all-out test (multiply by 0.95) or from longer rides, plus power zone definitions (active recovery through neuromuscular).
For golf, the handicap calculator implements the World Handicap System (WHS) post-2020 unified standard, which replaced the older USGA, R&A, and EGA systems. WHS uses your best 8 of last 20 scores adjusted for slope and rating.
Sports rules change over time; we update calculators when governing bodies publish revisions. The official rulebook for each sport (MLB, USBC, USGA, USAC, etc.) is the authoritative source for scoring questions in any actual competitive context.
